Image Filtering

Warning : this is a new module !

This module is very new and can't be expected to be fully mature yet. Some of its features are experimental or only planned but not implemented yet. It is however already useful and actually used in production.

Purpose

A sample view of how the image zone selection looks like. The main purpose of this module is to allow editors to add images to their Magnolia website by themselves, without having to resort to external image editing tools to do otherwise simple or repetive tasks. It currently allows editors to crop and resize images. It is intended to allow other kind of “image filtering”, such has watermarking, adding borders or modifying colors, for instance. It is usually important, to keep your website's design consistent, to have images of a fixed size in a given place. However, as an editor, all you want is upload and insert that shiny new picture you took with your camera, or use the latest logo sent by your marketing department. Using this module and with a properly setup dialog, you can just upload your image, and Magnolia will take care of resizing the image as requested, potentially letting you choose the portion of the image you want to use. Another point worth noting is that the original image is always kept in the repository. This allows you to change the cropping (portion of image) as many times as you want, or to re-resize the current image properly, should the layout of your website change, for instance.

How to use the resizing / cropping tool

Once the original image has been uploaded, you'll see an “Edit” button in the dialog. Clicking opens a new dialog window, showing your original image, and allowing you to select a portion of the image. Upon saving the dialog, Magnolia will generate the cropper and resized image. This is why you don't immediately see a preview of your selection. If you re-edit a paragraph where you previously resized an image, you will then see a preview of it, reminding you what portion of the original image was selected. You can always “Edit” it again, and change the selected portion. (The preview will then disappear and be replaced by a message telling you the image be re-generated when saving.)
